Hey gang! I’m about to build my first deck (just a small 12x12) and I want to get a cordless screwdriver/drill combo. I’ve been borrowing my neighbor’s old Ryobi but it’s heavy and the battery dies quick. I’m on a budget but don’t want crap. Any recommendations?

DeWalt all the way. I’ve used their 20V line for years and they never let me down. The DCD771 drill/driver is cheap and lasts forever. Don’t waste money on anything else.

Honestly, for a one-time deck, you could get away with a good corded drill. Cheaper and no battery issues. But if you want cordless, Craftsman’s V20 series is solid and affordable. I’ve had mine for 3 years no problems.

As a pro, I see lots of guys using Makita 18V LXT. The XFD12 is my go-to for deck screws. Light, powerful, and the batteries last all day. Worth the extra cash if you plan on more projects. But if it’s just the deck, maybe look at a deal with a couple bats.

Thanks everyone! Leaning toward Makita since Mike says the batteries last. I’ll check for a combos. Appreciate the input!
