Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new impact driver and I'm torn between DeWalt and Makita. I do a mix of home DIY and some woodworking. I've heard good things about both, but I want to know which one is more reliable in the long run. Any advice?

I've been using Makita for years, especially for woodworking. The build quality is solid, and the variable speed is perfect for precise screwing. I've dropped mine a few times and it still works like a champ. DeWalt is decent, but I feel Makita has better control for fine work.

As a gearhead, I need torque. I've used both in my garage, and here's the thing: DeWalt's 20V Max XR has a bit more punch, especially with big lag screws into metal. Makita is more compact and lighter, but if you're doing heavy duty, go DeWalt. Battery life on the XR is no joke.

Precision is my thing. I've had issues with DeWalt's trigger being too sensitive for smaller screws. Makita's has a nicer trigger control and the belt clip is better positioned. Also, the LED light on Makita is brighter and more focused. If you're doing fine woodworking, Makita wins hands down.

I'm a safety inspector, and I've seen a lot of tools come through. Makita has a solid reputation for fewer failures and better safety features, like the electric brake. DeWalt is also good, but Makita tends to have less vibration, which is easier on your hands. I'd go Makita if you're using it all day.
