DeWalt vs Makita Impact Driver: Which One's Better for Cabinetry?

Hey guys, I'm finally upgrading my impact driver for some cabinet builds. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DCF887 and the Makita XDT16. Price is similar but I'm torn. Anyone have real-world experience with either? I need precision for pocket holes but also some grunt for larger screws. What's the verdict?

I've used both extensively. The Makita XDT16 has a smoother trigger and better precision control for delicate work. The DeWalt is a bit more powerful but the Makita's 'assist mode' is a lifesaver for not stripping screws. If you're doing cabinetry, I'd lean Makita. Plus the ergonomics are better for long sessions.

Price-wise, you can often get the DeWalt with a battery kit for less. I got the DCF887 with two 5Ah batteries for $159 last Black Friday. The Makita is usually pricier. If budget's tight, the DeWalt is a beast. Just be careful with the trigger sensitivity - it's a bit jumpy.

Don't forget safety! Both have good clutches, but I've seen people get kickback on the DeWalt at full speed. Makita's variable speed trigger is smoother. Also check that your bits are impact-rated, regardless of brand. A cheap bit shatters easily at those torques.
