Hey folks, I'm in the market for a new impact driver. Can't decide between the DeWalt 20V Max and the Makita 18V LXT. I'm a DIYer mostly, but I do some serious projects. I've heard DeWalt has more torque, but Makita is lighter. What do you guys think? Any advice?

Ha, you knew I'd chime in! I've been using Makita for years, both at work and at home. The LXT line is rock solid. The impact driver is super balanced and the battery life is amazing. I've dropped mine off a ladder and it still works like a champ. But honestly, you can't go wrong with either. Just pick the one that feels better in your hand. Makita all the way! :)

I've got both actually (don't tell my wallet). The DeWalt has a bit more power in the high torque setting, but it's also bulkier. The Makita is more compact and easier to get into tight spaces, which is critical when I'm working under sinks. Also, the LEDs on the Makita are better positioned. If you're doing a lot of work in tight spots, I'd lean Makita. If you're building decks, the DeWalt will push those long screws in without breaking a sweat.

Newbie here! I went with DeWalt because my buddy had it and I could borrow batteries. But honestly, they're both great. I've used the Makita and I like the button layout better. But the DeWalt has this nice belt clip that I use all the time. What about you, Tim? Do you have any other tools from either brand? That might help you decide.

Thanks guys! I don't have any tools from either brand yet, but I'm starting fresh. I think I'm leaning towards Makita because of the compactness and the LED, but I also want that extra power for some heavy stuff. Maybe I'll just get both eventually! For now, I'll go to the store and see how they feel. Appreciate the input!
