Hey folks, was browsing the local hardware store's clearance section and stumbled on a 32-piece screwdriver set from a brand called 'ProGrip' for only $19.99. Normally I stick to my trusty Craftsman set, but at that price I'm tempted. Anyone have experience with ProGrip? Seems like a steal for all those bits and handles.

Bob, I bought a similar ProGrip set last year. The handles are actually pretty comfy for longer sessions, but the tips wear out faster than my Craftsman ones. For $20 though, you can't go wrong as a backup set or for light projects. Just don't expect them to last through heavy daily use like stripping screws in old deck boards.

lol i got burned on one of those 'too good to be true' deals last month. Bought a no-name set online and the phillips heads stripped on the first use with some cabinet screws. If you're gonna get it, test it on something non-critical first. But hey, for $20 maybe worth the gamble if the store has a return policy?

At the shop we use mostly Wera and Klein for precision stuff, but honestly for home DIY that ProGrip might be fine. My instructor always says: 'The tool doesn't make the craftsman, but a bad tool can ruin your work.' If you're just doing occasional furniture assembly or light fixes, go for it. But if you're driving screws into hardwood regularly, invest in something better.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like it's decent for the price but not a lifetime set. I think I'll grab it for my weekend birdhouse projects and keep my Craftsman for the serious stuff. Appreciate the input!
