Hey everyone, was browsing the hardware store and saw a 20-piece screwdriver set for only $15! It's some off-brand called "ProGrip" or something. The handles feel decent and they have all the common sizes. I'm tempted to grab a couple sets for my garage and truck. Anyone have experience with these cheap sets? Are they gonna break on the first tough job?

Carl, I'd steer clear of those no-name brands. I've been burned before - the tips strip out after a few uses and you end up replacing them anyway. Stick with trusted names like Klein or Wera. Yeah you'll pay more upfront, but they last forever. My Klein set is going on 8 years now!

I'm with Bob on brand loyalty, but honestly for $15? Might be worth it as a backup set. I keep a cheap set in my camping gear for light repairs. Just don't expect them to handle serious torque. If you're just doing weekend projects around the house, they'll probably be fine until you can invest in better ones.

Check the tip tolerances! Cheap drivers often have sloppy fit in screw heads, which can cam out and damage both the screw and driver. If you do buy them, test them on some scrap first. Also look at the steel quality - if they magnetize too easily or feel brittle, they're junk. Personally I'd save for a good set with proper hardening.

Thanks for the input everyone! Bob - I hear you on quality, but my budget's tight this month. Dan - good point about backups. Sarah - I'll check the tips like you said. Think I'll grab one set to test out. If they last through my current shelf-building project, maybe I'll get more. Appreciate the advice!
