Hey all, my Dewalt 20V impact driver (DCF887) started stalling mid-screw today. Battery is fully charged, but it just stops and the LED blinks 3 times. Any ideas? It's got some miles on it, but I've taken care of it.

That blinking 3 times on Dewalts usually means an overload or stall protection. Could be a dying brush or a bad trigger. Might be time for a new one if it's old. Mine did that and I just moved on. But check the bit holder - sometimes debris gets in there and binds it up.

I've had that with a different brand. Try blowing out the motor vents with compressed air. Dust buildup can cause overheating and thermal shutdown. Also, check if the battery terminals are clean - corrosion can cause power drops. If those don't work, maybe the switch is shot. You could replace it if you're handy.

Before you toss it, try a different battery. I've had batteries that show full charge but drop voltage under load. Could also be the battery contacts - I've had to bend them back for better connection. And yeah, what Pete said about the brushes - easy fix if you can find replacements.

Thanks guys! I'll check all that. Gonna start with the battery swap and blow out the vents. If it's the brushes, I'll give the rebuild a shot. Appreciate the help!
