Just wanted to share a quick safety tip that I learned the hard way. I was driving a screw into some hard oak and the screwdriver slipped, sending a tiny piece of metal flying right past my eye. Scared the crap out of me! Now I always wear safety glasses, even for 'simple' jobs like screwing. You never know when a cheap screwdriver tip might shear off. Stay safe out there!

Good reminder Wendy. I keep a pair of cheap safety glasses in my toolbox at all times. Harbor Freight has them for like $2. No excuse not to wear them. I also learned to use the right size screwdriver – too small and it slips, too big and you strip the screw. That alone prevents a lot of accidents.

I hear ya. I had a close call last month with a flathead that slipped and stabbed my palm. Not fun. Now I use a screwdriver with a hex bolster so I can put a wrench on it for extra torque, and I wear mechanics gloves. They're not bulky and give me a better grip. Also, make sure your screwdriver handles aren't oily – that's a recipe for slippage.

Gloves are a good call, Dave. I sometimes skip them for precision work but for heavy torque I always wear them. Another thing: don't use a screwdriver as a chisel or pry bar. I've seen people do that and the tip snaps. Use the right tool for the job, folks!

LOL Wendy, guilty as charged. I've used a flathead as a chisel more times than I care to admit. But you're right, it's dangerous. I've had tips break off and go flying. Now I keep a cheap set of chisels around. Worth the $20 to save your eyes. And yeah, eye protection is non-negotiable.
