Hey all, just got a brand new 18V cordless drill (X brand) and the battery won't charge. It's the second battery I've tried, but the charger light just blinks red and the battery stays cold. Everything's clean, no corrosion. Anyone else have this issue? Should I just return it?

Sounds like a charger or battery communication error. Sometimes the contacts on the charger get dirty, but you said clean. Could be a firmware hiccup. Try unplugging the charger for a few minutes, then plug back in and pop the battery in firmly. If that doesn't work, maybe try a different outlet. If it still blinks, it's likely a defective charger or battery. I'd return it.

Yeah, I'd take it back. Brand new shouldn't have issues. But before you do, check if there's a reset button on the battery. Some have them. Also, make sure you're using the right charger for that battery - they're not all compatible, even within the same brand. That's a common mistake. But if all else fails, warranty it.

I've seen this a lot with new tools. Sometimes the battery needs a little 'juice' to start charging if it's been stored for a long time. Try charging it in a warm room (but not hot) - cold batteries can confuse the charger. If that doesn't work, it's likely a dud. I'd exchange it. But don't toss the battery - you can often resurrect them later with a manual charge. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I'll try the warm room idea, and check for a reset. If not, I'll take it back to the store. Appreciate the help!
