Hey everyone, I'm planning to build a deck in my backyard this summer and I need to get a circular saw. I've got a budget of around $200. What do you recommend? I've been looking at the DeWalt and Makita models, but I'm open to suggestions. Also, any tips for making sure the cuts are straight and clean?

For deck building, you can't go wrong with a circular saw that has a decent blade and plenty of power. I'd say check out the Makita 5007MG - it's a beast and has great cut quality. If you want something a bit lighter, the DeWalt DWE575 is solid too. For straight cuts, invest in a good straightedge or a track saw guide. Clamp it down and you're golden.

I'm all about Milwaukee, but I've used the Makita and it's good. However, if you're on a budget, I'd say go with the DeWalt - it's reliable and parts are easy to find. Also, don't forget to get a good blade like a Diablo combination blade. It makes a huge difference in cuts, especially on pressure-treated lumber.

Safety first! Whatever saw you get, make sure you use proper PPE - safety glasses, ear protection, and dust mask. Also, practice proper technique: let the saw do the work, don't force it. And use a guide for straight cuts - a simple 2x4 clamped down works great as a straightedge. Just be careful with the saw's blade guard - never remove it! Happy building!
