Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new cordless circular saw and I'm torn between DeWalt and Makita. I do a lot of framing and general construction, so I need something that can handle some abuse. I've heard good things about both, but I want some real-world opinions before I drop the cash. Anyone have experience with either or both?

I've got the Makita 36V (18Vx2) circ saw and it's a beast. I use it mostly for woodworking and it's got plenty of power for ripping through hardwoods. The dust collection is pretty decent too, if that matters to you. Plus the electric brake is a nice safety feature. But I've heard DeWalt's FlexVolt is also a monster. Are you looking at 60V or 20V?

I've used both on job sites. DeWalt's 60V FlexVolt is probably the most powerful cordless circ saw I've ever used, but it's heavy. Makita is lighter and more compact, which is handy for overhead cuts or all-day use. If you're already invested in a battery platform, that might be the deciding factor. Have you considered battery compatibility?

Good point about the batteries. I already have a bunch of DeWalt 20V stuff, so I could get the 20V model to save money, but I'm worried it won't have enough power for framing. Does the 20V XR hold up? Or should I spring for the 60V? Makita would mean new batteries all around, which is a big investment for me.

My buddy has the DeWalt 20V XR and he swears by it for framing. It's not as torquey as the 60V, but with a good blade it easily cuts through 2x4s and even stacked lumber. I've used it a few times and it felt solid. Plus the 20V battery is lighter, so it's easier on the wrist. If you're already on DeWalt, I'd save the cash for a good blade or other tools. Just my 2 cents.
