DeWalt vs Makita for a router? Which one to pick?

Hey all, I'm looking at upgrading my router situation. I've got a DeWalt 20V system already but I keep hearing Makita's trim router is the bees knees. I do custom cabinets and need something that can handle edge profiling and some plunge work. Keep it real, no fanboy stuff. What's your experience?

I've used both on my resto projects. The Makita has that variable speed that's silky smooth for fine work, but the DeWalt feels more robust if you're pushing it hard. Also, the Makita's dust collection is crap out of the box but there's a mod for it. If you're in the DeWalt battery system already, just get the DeWalt, seriously.

Precision wise, Makita's base is dead flat out of the box. I had to shim my DeWalt's base. But the DeWalt's micro-adjustment is nicer. For a production job, I'd take the Makita for the consistent cut quality. Also, check the collet runout, Makita's is usually better.

Good point Pete about base flatness – I've had issues with that before. Chris, I feel you about the battery system, but I'm thinkin of grabbing a bare tool since I have some 20V batts. So DeWalt might make sense. But the precision edge is tempting. Anyone else used the DeWalt for dovetails?

Honestly for dovetails I'd go with the Makita, it's smoother and the fine adjustments are more accurate. The DeWalt works but you gotta be careful with the speed. And the collet lock on the Makita is nicer. My 2 cents.
