Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new circular saw. I've been bouncing between the DeWalt 60V FlexVolt and the Makita 36V XGT. I do mostly framing and deck work. Any of you guys have experience with both? I don't wanna drop that cash and regret it.

I've used both. The DeWalt has that brushless motor and the 60V gives it some serious grunt for ripping through treated lumber. But the Makita is no slouch either, and it's got a better safety trigger (less accidental starts). Makita's dust collection is also a bit better if you care about your lungs. Both are solid, but check the blade guard and riving knife if you're doing a lot of cuts.

Precision-wise, I lean Makita. The base plate is flatter out of the box and the bevel detents are more accurate. DeWalt tends to need a bit of tweaking. But if you're just framing, you might not care about that 1/64th. Makita's electric brake also stops quicker, which is nice for clean cuts.

I got the Makita XGT because my old 18V Makita stuff all still works and I didn't wanna start a new battery system. But if you're starting fresh, the DeWalt FlexVolt batteries also work with their other high-drain tools like grinders and saws. So think about the whole ecosystem. Just sayin', I'm happy with my Makita, but I've borrowed a DeWalt and it rips.
