Hey guys, I'm a pro contractor and I'm trying to decide between the DeWalt 887 and the Makita XDT16 for heavy daily use. I've heard mixed things about both—DeWalt's are tough but Makita seems smoother. Anyone got real-world experience with these?

I've used both extensively. DeWalt's 887 is a beast for driving big lags, but the Makita XDT16 has better control and less vibration. For sheer power, DeWalt wins. For precision work, Makita all the way. I stick with DeWalt because my whole fleet is yellow, but Makita is solid too.

team Makita all the way! The XDT16 is lighter, the trigger is way smoother, and I've never had one burn out. DeWalt feels clunky to me. But I'm a loyalist, so take it with a grain of salt lol. What kind of work do you do most?

Mostly framing and decks, so lots of heavy screws. I need something that can take a beating and not die in the rain. Sounds like they both have pros and cons. Anyone had issues with battery life on either?

Battery life on both is great with the big packs. DeWalt's 5Ah lasts me all day, but Makita's 5Ah is slightly better in cold weather. If you're in wet conditions, I'd go DeWalt just because they're a bit more sealed. But honestly, you can't go wrong.
