Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new impact driver and I'm stuck between DeWalt and Makita. I've used both brands before but never owned either. I do a lot of DIY projects around the house and occasionally help friends with decks and framing. Which one would you recommend for a serious DIYer? I want something that'll last but won't cost me an arm and a leg.

I've been running Makita for years mostly because they're usually a bit cheaper and the batteries last forever. If you're budget conscious like me, Makita's sub-compact impact driver is a beast for the price. But honestly, DeWalt has better sales sometimes. Check for combo kits around the holidays - you can get a drill and impact for almost the price of one. Just my 2 cents.

Precision matters more than brand loyalty IMO. I've tested both and Makita's impact drivers tend to have smoother trigger control and less wobble in the chuck. That's crucial for delicate work. DeWalt's newer models are catching up though. If you're doing a lot of cabinet installs or furniture assembly, go Makita. For heavy framing, DeWalt's higher torque models might be better. What's your primary use?

I restore old furniture and I've had my DeWalt impact driver for 5 years without a single issue. The battery system is interchangeable with their other tools, which is a big plus if you plan to expand your collection. Makita is great too, but I find DeWalt's ergonomics better for long sessions. Also, replacement parts are easier to find for DeWalt in my area. Where are you located? That might affect service options.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'm leaning towards Makita for the price and trigger control, but I do like the idea of DeWalt's battery ecosystem. I mostly do home repairs and small builds, so I don't need extreme torque. I'll keep an eye out for sales. Appreciate the help!
