Hey all, I'm looking at getting a 12" sliding compound miter saw. I've got some DeWalt tools already, but I've heard good things about Makita. Mainly for framing and trim work on weekends. What do you guys think? DWS780 vs the LS1219L?

I've used both. The DeWalt DWS780 is a beast for cutting, but the shadow line is really bright and clear. Makita's direct drive is super smooth though, and no belt to replace. If you're doing mostly framing, DeWalt's forward rails are nice for tight spaces. But for fine trim, the Makita might be better for accuracy.

Precision wise, the Makita is more accurate out of the box. The 0° detent on DeWalt can be off sometimes. I bumped mine and had to recalibrate. Also check the bevel stops. But DeWalt has a better warranty in my area. Really depends on your tolerance for tweaking.

Don't forget the weight. The Makita is like 20 lbs lighter. If you move it around a lot, that matters. I have the Makita and it's smooth as butter. But Dewalt's stand integration is better. Also, the Makita comes with a fine blade that's pretty good for crosscuts. Both are top notch though.
