Don't skip the safety glasses: my close call with a grinder

Hey guys, just wanted to share a quick tip. Yesterday I was using a angle grinder to cut some copper pipe, and I thought 'ah, I'm just making one quick cut, I don't need glasses.' Well, the disc shattered and a piece hit me right in the eyebrow. Lucky it wasn't my eye. Just a reminder: always wear PPE even for 'quick' jobs.

Eesh, glad you're ok man. I nearly lost a finger to a table saw a few years back because I was tired and lazy. Now I always put on glasses and gloves before even turning on a tool. Thanks for the reminder.

Good post Paul. I see way too many guys on job sites skipping basics like eye pro and ear plugs. It's not worth it. Also, check your discs for cracks before using them. I'm a stickler for that after a disc exploded on me years ago.

Totally agree. I do roofing and when I was starting out I didn't think I needed a harness for a low slope roof. Slipped and slid off, broke my arm. Now I suit up every time. PPE is a life saver.

Thanks guys, yeah I got lucky. I'm ordering a face shield today just for grinding. Better safe than sorry.
