So I was using my Makita 18V hammer drill to put up some shelves, and it just died on me. Battery was full, but now it won't start. I tried another battery and still nothing. Any ideas before I toss it?

First thing, check the brushes. If they're worn out, the motor won't get power. Also, could be the trigger switch. Had that happen on an old dewalt once. Pop the handle off and look for burnt contacts.

Don't toss it! If it's not the brushes, it might be the speed controller. Check for a blown capacitor. Easy fix if you've got a soldering iron. What model is it exactly?

Could also be a locked rotor. Try turning the chuck by hand- if it's stiff, the bearings might be shot. Had that happen on a really dusty job. Give it a good clean and lube first.
