Hey guys, I've got a problem with my hammer drill. It's a 20V cordless, about 2 years old, and the battery won't charge. The charger shows a solid red light when I put the battery in, but nothing happens. I've tried a different outlet, same thing. Anyone know if it's the battery or the charger? Don't wanna drop cash on a new battery if it's the charger.

Solid red light usually means battery is toast or deep discharged. Try resetting the battery if it has a button - press it for 10 sec. Also check if contacts are clean. But if it's 2 years old and used hard, cells might be dead. I'd borrow a battery from a friend to test the charger. Or buy a new battery from Amazon with easy returns.

Hold up, before you do anything, check the charger fuse if it has one. Some models have a little fuse in the plug. Also make sure the battery isn't too hot or cold - charging temp is usually 40-104°F. I've seen guys store batteries in freezing garages and then they don't charge till they warm up.

If the charger light is solid red and not flashing, that's usually a battery fault. Flashing red is charger fault. But honestly, at 2 years, you might be better off buying a new set. Batteries are consumables. Check if your brand has a warranty - some have 3-year on batteries. I've had good luck with 3rd party replacements too, just read reviews.

Thanks all! I'll try warming the battery up first then clean the contacts. I don't have another battery to test, but I'll check the fuse. If that fails, I guess I'm buying a new one. Appreciate the help!
