Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a 12x16 shed in my backyard this spring. I've got a basic tool set but I'm lacking in good wrenches. I'll be working with lots of bolts and nuts for the frame, so I need a reliable set. Should I go with combination wrenches, ratcheting, or maybe even adjustable? Budget is around $100. What do you guys recommend?

For shed framing, go with a quality set of combination wrenches. Ratcheting wrenches are nice but often skip sizes and can be bulky in tight spots. I recommend GearWrench or Tekton – their 12-point box ends give you more angles to work with. Also, don't cheap out on a good adjustable wrench just in case, but stick to SAE sizes (most shed kits use 1/2" and 9/16"). Precision matters when you're torquing down bolts – strip one and you'll regret it!

I second the combo wrenches. I built my entire deck with a Husky set from Home Depot – around $80 for a metric/SAE set. But if you're doing a shed, consider getting a couple of ratcheting box-end wrenches too. They speed things up when you're doing repetitive bolts. I've also used a small crescent wrench for the odd size, but don't rely on it. And don't forget a torque wrench for critical bolts – shed roofs can be dangerous if not tightened right.

Hey man, I'd say get a set of combination wrenches from Pittsburgh Pro at Harbor Freight – cheap and they work fine for a shed. I've abused mine for years under my car. Also, grab a set of socket wrenches with a ratchet – you'll thank me when you're tightening nuts on the studs. But for wrenches, a 12-point box end is key for clearing bolt threads. Just don't use adjustable wrenches if you can help it – they slip and round off nuts.

Thanks for all the input! I think I'll go with a combination set from Tekton and maybe a couple of ratcheting ones for the repetitive stuff. Appreciate the torque wrench tip too – never thought of that. Gonna hit the store this weekend!
