Hey everyone, I'm planning on building a 12x16 deck in my backyard this spring. I've got a basic tool set but I'm thinking I might need some specific wrenches for the bolts and lag screws. Should I get a set of combination wrenches or is there something better? I've been looking at some ratcheting ones but not sure if they're worth the extra cash.

For deck building, you'll definitely appreciate a good set of combination wrenches, but honestly, a set of ratcheting combination wrenches is the way to go. I've used both, and the ratcheting ones save so much time when you're tightening up dozens of bolts. Just make sure to get ones with a decent build quality – you don't want them rounding off under torque.

I second the ratcheting wrenches. But also, consider investing in a decent impact wrench if you have a compressor or battery system. It'll make driving those lag screws a breeze. For wrenches, though, I'd look at a set with both standard and metric – you never know what you might need.

Alright, but remember safety first. Whatever wrenches you get, make sure you're using the right size – don't force a wrench that doesn't fit. Also, when you're up on a deck, keep your tools organized so you don't trip over them. Oh, and for the bolts, I'd recommend using a torque wrench for critical connections – you don't want the deck collapsing.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'll go with a set of ratcheting combination wrenches and maybe borrow a torque wrench. 'Preciate it, guys!
