Hey guys, I'm planning to build a deck this spring. I have a basic set of wrenches but they keep slipping on the bolts. Any recommendations for a good set that won't break the bank? I'm mainly dealing with 1/2" and 5/8" bolts.

For decking, I'd go with a set of combination wrenches from Husky or Gearwrench. The ratcheting box end is a lifesaver when you're in tight spots. Also, get a good torque wrench for the bolts - over tightening can split the wood.

I swear by my Proto set. The jaw opening is precise and they don't round off bolts. But if you're on a budget, Tekton makes decent wrenches with a no-slip design. Also, consider getting a set of impact-rated sockets for your impact driver - speeds things up.

Don't forget a good set of flare nut wrenches if you're using carriage bolts - that rounded head can be a pain. And a crowfoot wrench set for the lag screws. I learned the hard way after stripping a bolt halfway through. Harbor Freight has cheap ones that work fine for occasional use.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll go with the Tekton set and pick up some crowfoot wrenches. Appreciate the tips!
