Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new 1/2" impact wrench. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT08Z. Both have similar specs but I need real-world opinions. I'm all about precision and power - which one has better trigger control and less rattling? Also, any issues with longevity?

I've got the Makita XWT08Z and it's a beast. Tons of torque, but the trigger feathering is decent. Haven't used the DeWalt much but my buddy swears by his DCF899. He says it's lighter and the hog ring is better. But tbh, both are overkill for my garage projects.

I went back and forth on this too. Ended up with the DeWalt because I'm already in their ecosystem. The DCF899 has a bit of a 'hammer' feel on high torque, but you can dial it down. No issues after 2 years of heavy use. Makita is solid too, but check the anvil - some early models had wear issues.

Thanks for the input! I'm leaning towards the Makita for the smoother trigger, but the anvil wear worries me. Have they fixed that in newer batches? Also, Larry, do you feel the Makita is too bulky for tight spaces?

It's a bit chunky, not gonna lie. If you're workin on tight engine bays, maybe the DeWalt would fit better. But I got big hands so it's fine for me. And I haven't had any anvil issues, but mine's from last year. So maybe they fixed it.
