Hey all! I'm looking to buy my first impact wrench for a big deck project and some auto work. I'm torn between the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT08Z. I've heard good things about both, but I want something that'll last. Any opinions?

I'd go with Makita personally. Their brushless motors are beastly and they seem to hold up better on job sites. Plus the XWT08 has that crazy torque. DeWalt is good too, but I've seen more returns on the 899. Just my 2 cents.

Both are solid choices, but it depends on what you're doing. I've restored a few old cars and use the DeWalt DCF899H at home. It's got plenty of power for lug nuts and suspension bolts. The Makita is lighter and has a smaller head, so it fits in tight spots better. If you're mostly doing automotive, maybe the Makita. For heavy duty framing, DeWalt. Also check the battery platform you already have.

Thanks guys! I actually have a bunch of DeWalt batteries already from a drill and saw I got on sale. That might seal the deal for the DCF899. Dave, did you have any issues with the hog ring vs detent pin? I hear the hog ring can lose sockets sometimes.

Hog ring is fine, never lost a socket on mine. Detent pin is a pain if you swap sockets a lot. Plus you can always get a conversion anvil if you really want. Stick with the hog ring if you ask me. Go DeWalt since you got the batts, you won't regret it.
