Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new 1/2" impact wrench. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt 20V Max XR vs Makita XWT18Z. I do a lot of work on my old truck and some light fabrication. I know both are solid, but I want to hear from people who've actually used them. Which one gives you more bang for the buck without sacrificing performance?

I've had the Makita for about a year now. The build quality is top-notch, and the precision is insane. The variable speed trigger gives you amazing control, which is crucial for not snapping bolts. But honestly, if you're on a budget, the DeWalt is probably the way to go. It's got more raw torque, but Makita's electronics are smoother. Both are great, but you gotta decide if you want brute force or finesse.

I'm with Tim on the budget thing. I went with the DeWalt because I got it on sale with a free battery. It's a beast, but I've noticed it's a bit heavier. If you're doing overhead work, that'll get old fast. Also, I've heard the Makita has a better warranty, but I haven't needed to test that yet. Have you considered buying used? I got mine off Craigslist for half price, still works great.

Thanks for the input! I'm leaning towards the DeWalt now, especially with the price difference. But I'm still a bit worried about the weight. Do you guys know if the new models are any lighter? Also, Tim, you mentioned precision—does the Makita actually stop when you let go of the trigger, or does it coast? I hate that coasting effect.
