Hey guys, I'm looking to buy my first high-torque impact wrench for working on my car and some deck buildin'. I'm torn between the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT08Z. Both seem good but I can't decide. Anyone have experience with either? Budget isn't a huge issue, I just want somethin that'll last.

I've got the Makita XWT08Z and it's a beast. 740 ft-lbs of nut-bustin torque. But if you want real precision, the DeWalt has a better trigger for variable speed control. Makita's trigger is a bit touchy. Also, Makita's battery life is slightly better in my tests. But both are solid. If you're heavy on the trigger, go Makita. If you need feathering, go DeWalt.

I got the DeWalt last year and it's been great. Dropped it off a ladder once and still works fine. No complaints. My buddy has the Makita and he's happy too. Honestly, you can't go wrong. Just pick the color you like better lol.

Thanks for the input! I think I'm leanin towards the Makita for the torque, but I'm a little worried about the trigger. Is it really that bad?

It's not "bad", just not as smooth. If you're used to a variable speed drill, the DeWalt feels more natural. But for impact work, you're mostly just mashing the button anyway. I'd still say get the Makita and save $50. Put that towards a second battery.
