DeWalt vs Makita Impact Wrenches: Which One Survives the Job Site?

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new 1/2" impact wrench and I'm torn between the DeWalt DCF899 and the Makita XWT17Z. I do a mix of automotive and light construction work. I've heard good things about both, but I'm wondering which one holds up better in terms of power and durability. Any advice?

I've been a Makita guy for years, so I might be biased, but the XWT17Z is a beast. I've used it to break loose lug nuts that were torqued to 200 ft-lbs and it didn't even grunt. The build quality is solid too, and I've dropped it off a ladder a couple times without any issues. The 18V LXT platform is also great because the batteries are compatible with tons of other tools.

I've used both in my renovation work, and honestly, you can't go wrong. But I give the edge to DeWalt for the sheer power - the DCF899 has insane torque (700 ft-lbs nut busting). That said, it's a bit heavier. If you'll be using it all day, that might matter. For automotive and occasional construction, either will serve you well.

Listen, I've seen too many guys wreck their wrists with high-torque impacts. Whichever you get, invest in a good impact socket set and wear safety glasses. Also, check your torque specs - don't just crank everything down. That's how you end up with stripped threads. Trust me, I've seen it all.

I'm a gearhead, and I've got both in my garage. The DeWalt is my go-to for stubborn bolts, but the Makita is more compact and really nice for tight spaces under the hood. If you're doing both auto and construction, maybe get the one that feels good in your hand. You'll probably end up buying the other later anyway. ;)
