So I was at Harbor Freight today and spotted their Pittsburgh Pro combo wrench set (25 pc) for only $39.99 with a coupon! That's like half the normal price. I've been needing a decent set for home use. Anyone have experience with these? Worth grabbing or should I save up for something better?

For a home DIYer, those are fine. I've had a set for a few years now, use them on the job site too actually. They're not Snap-On quality, but they've held up okay. The chrome might wear a bit, and the open end is a little fat, but for $40 you can't beat it. Just don't expect to torque on them like a gorilla.

I say grab them, especially if you're just starting out.

Honestly? I'd pass. You get what you pay for. I've seen those harbor freight wrenches round off bolts if you look at them wrong. Plus the fit and finish is meh. If you're serious about your tools, save up for a set from GearWrench or Tekton. I've got a set of GearWrench 120xp and they're butter. You'll thank me later.

Thanks for the input! I hear you Gary, but I'm not a pro. Steve, nice to know they've held up for you. I think I'll grab them for now. If they break, I'll upgrade. And maybe I'll get one of those GearWrench sets for my birthday lol.

Wendy, you do that! And a tip: if you do get them, check the edges for any defects before you leave the store. Sometimes the heat treat is iffy. But for basic stuff, they'll do the job. Congrats on the deal!
