Hey everyone, I've got a DeWalt 20V impact wrench (model DCF899) and the battery just stopped charging. It's not that old, maybe 6 months. I've tried a different charger and it's the same thing. Any ideas before I drop $100 on a new battery?

First thing, check if the battery terminals are clean. Sometimes corrosion or dirt builds up. Also, try resetting the battery by holding the button for 15 seconds. If that doesn't work, it might be a dead cell. DeWalt batteries have a 3-year warranty, so contact them. They'll probably send a replacement.

Honestly, DeWalt batteries are solid. I've got a few that are 5+ years old. But if it's dead after 6 months, it's probably a defect. HammerHank's right about the warranty. Also, make sure you're using the right charger. I've seen people fry batteries by using a knock-off.

I'm all about saving money. Before buying a new one, try jumpstarting the battery with a 12V car battery. I've ressurected a few that way. Just connect positive to positive, negative to negative for 10 seconds. Works sometimes. If not, check eBay for a used one. I got a 5Ah for $40.
